Melania Trump þykir taka lítinn þátt í forsetaembætti eiginmanns síns, Donald Trump, miðað við fyrri forsetafrúr. Hún hefur sjaldan heimsótt Hvíta húsið og býr ennþá í Trump turninum í New York. Hún er þar með Barron, son þeirra hjóna, á meðan hann klárar skólaárið. Áætlað er að hún og Barron munu flytja í Hvíta húsið í júní. Hún fylgir samt sem áður grunnhefðum Hvíta hússins, en það er venja að Hvíta húsið sendir frá sér opinbera portrett ljósmynd af forsetafrúnni.
