Guardian birtir frétt um réttarhaldið yfir Geir Haarde.
Það er athyglisvert að lesa athugsemdirnar við fréttirnar, þær eru flestar á einn veg – Íslendingum er hrósað fyrir framtakið.
Í einu kommentinu segir:
„Well here is an interesting turn of events.
Who else could we put in the dock on this basis?
The IMF – the ratings agencies – the banks – the Fed – Derivatives traders – the last Labour government – George Bush – Bill Clinton – Alan Greenspan – the list goes on and on…
Is this guy from Iceland going to be the only man who doesn’t get to pocket a fortune and walk away grinning from ear to ear?
Astonishing! What do the Icelandic people have that we don’t? Morals and ethics probably.“
Og í öðru:
„Amazing! A senior politician is being called to account for (alleged) maladministration of his country. You should consider yourself lucky, Mr Haarde, that you live in a civilised place and have avoided (at least so far) the more traditional methods that have been used elsewhere in the World since1905.
Has Iceland’s Landsdomur really been in existence since 1905 without a single case being brought before them? I would be interested to hear if there are any similar organisations elsewhere.
And no, Mr Haarde, it is not a “political trial”. You are charged with criminal incompetence. We can only hope that the administrators of law and justice in all the other countries involved have the guts to follow suit … I won’t hold my breath though.“
