The Economist fjallar um bandaríska hægrið í leiðara og segir eins og er: að það hafi engar hugmyndir en sé að farast úr reiði. Blaðið lýsir ástandinu á hægri vængnum í Bandaríkjunum eins og geðveikrahæli, þar sem hófsemdar- og skynsemisfólk er hrakið burt. Myndin sem fylgir með greininni er af brjálaða teboðinu úr Lísu í Undralandi. Þetta sé sorglegt, því Obama hafi svikið mörg kosningaloforð sín og eigi skilið að fá alvöru stjórnarandstöðu. En eins og staðan er þurfi hófsamir Repúblikanar að vinna með Demókrötum í þjóðarhag. Nú sé flokkurinn á valdi óðra bloggara, skrumaranna á Fox News og reiðra meðlima Teboðshreyfingarinnar svokölluðu. Haldi þetta svona áfram sé líklegra að Repúblikanar bjóði fram Palin og Huckabee í kosningunum 2012 en til dæmis Petraeus og Daniels.

„The Republicans at the moment are less a party than an ongoing civil war (with, from a centrist point of view, the wrong side usually winning). There is a dwindling band of moderate Republicans who understand that they have to work with the Democrats in the interests of America. There is the old intolerant, gun-toting, immigrant-bashing, mainly southern right which sees any form of co-operation as treachery, even blasphemy. And muddying the whole picture is the tea-party movement, a tax revolt whose activists (some clever, some dotty, all angry) seem to loathe Bush-era free-spending Republicans as much as they hate Democrats. Egged on by a hysterical blogosphere and the ravings of Fox News blowhards, the Republican Party has turned upon itself.„
